US staffing revenue was down 2% year over year in December 2024 among the 188 companies taking part in the latest Pulse survey by SIA. That compares to a median 5% decline based on data from October.

December’s biggest decline in revenue took place in travel nursing, where it fell a median 18% year over year.

Revenue also fell a median 5% among life sciences staffing providers, 1% among industrial staffing firms and another 1% at finance/accounting staffing providers.

Revenue was flat in several categories, including office/clerical, per diem nursing and engineering.

Despite the overall decrease, revenue did rise in some areas. Locum tenens saw the biggest with a median increase of 9% in December.

Another finding in the survey: Average sales difficulty rose, according to those taking part in the report. And the net percentage increase in new orders fell to 2% in December from 23% in the previous survey.
