Singapore has created a distinct labour category for ride-hailing drivers and freelance delivery workers that positions them between employees and self-employed workers, The Straits Times newspaper reported. Referred to as platform workers, they will now get greater levels of contributions to Singapore’s Central Provident Fund for savings and pensions. Platform operators will also have to provide the workers with standardised work injury compensation insurance policies.
