Randstad Spain forecasted that the Christmas holiday period will generate 491,175 new temporary work hires in the country, 15.4% more than last year’s campaign, when 425,665 employment contracts were signed.

The Christmas campaign is considered as the period between Black Friday and January sales.

In terms of sectors, logistics and transport will be the sector that will generate the most contracts (211,400) and the one that will grow the most compared to the previous year (25.8%) when 168,000 contracts were signed.

For its part, the hospitality industry will register 179,000 contracts, 10.6% more than the previous year (161,900). Meanwhile, the commerce sector will generate 100,775 contracts during this campaign, 5.2% more than in 2023 (95,765). Regarding the weight of the sectors, transport and logistics represent 43% of the total vacancies, hospitality 36% and commerce just over 20%.

Andrés Menéndez, director of general staffing for Randstad Spain, said in a press release (translated from Spanish), “The Christmas campaign is, without a doubt, one of the most dynamic times in the labour market, with a notable increase in hiring driven by the rise in consumption and intense activity in key sectors such as commerce, logistics and hospitality.”

“This period reflects how companies are redoubling their efforts to meet the high demand, highlighting the importance of strengthening their workforce to guarantee an efficient and quality service. The economic context and outlook also help, as a positive 2025 is expected,” Menéndez added.

In terms of regional hiring, Castilla-La Mancha and Castilla y León stand out, with growth forecasted at 24% and 19.5% respectively.
