Online hiring in India climbs 12% in June, manufacturing leads growth

Online recruitment in India reported a 12% increase in June 2024 when compared to June 2023, according to the latest foundit Insights Tracker.
The Tracker noted that the overall hiring activity in India has shown a consistent upward trend. The 12% increase was further supported by a 15% increase over the last six months. The data reaffirms the strength of the job market and the ongoing demand for skilled professionals across various sectors. On a month-on-month basis, the increase was 2%. Over the last three months, the increase was 1%.
Industry hiring trends showed that manufacturing (43%) led June’s hiring surge. The tracker observed an increase in recruitment activity across 20 out of the 27 monitored industries on an annual basis in June 2024. Construction and engineering followed with a 29% increase.
By functional hiring trend, 8 out of 13 areas saw an uptick in hiring. Hospitality registered the highest annual growth of 36%, followed by marketing and communications (24%).
Online recruitment soared in 8 of 13 cities on an annual basis with Bengaluru leading the way (24%) followed closely by Coimbatore (23%).
By experience level, the demand for entry-level job seekers (0-3 years of experience) saw a marginal increase (2%) from an annual perspective. Hiring for Associate roles with an experience of 4-6 years saw flat year-on-year growth.
Hiring for mid-senior level roles with 7-10 years of experience increased by 7% over the year. Senior-level roles with 11-15 years saw a marginal decrease (-1%) in hiring demand.
Meanwhile, there was a notable 8% uptick in hiring activity for roles demanding 16+ years of experience.
Further data from foundit showed that diversity hiring in India surged by 33% year-over-year, underlining the growing importance of diversity and inclusion (D&I) policies.
The BFSI (banking, financial services and insurance) sector leads with the highest share of diversity jobs at 30%, up from 25% last year, reflecting robust efforts to enhance inclusivity.
The tracker noted job postings now prominently feature inclusive language, specifying preferred pronouns and avoiding gender bias. Additionally, there is a strong push to promote women to leadership roles through mentorship and specialised training programs.
