The majority of workers in Malaysia (81%) say they understand the impact AI will have on their jobs, according to insights from Randstad Malaysia.

When asked how AI has impacted their job, 7% said they do not know, 12% said AI has made no impact at all on their job while 32% said AI has made a little impact on their job. At the same time, 40% said AI has made a considerable impact on their job, 5% said AI has already impacted their job while 4% expect to lose their job because of AI.

Further research showed that one in three Malaysians have never used AI at work, while another 10% of respondents have only used AI tools once, showing an exposure gap in AI skill development in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, one in five Malaysians use AI daily or frequently at work, particularly Gen Zers (36%) and Millennials (24%). Randstad also found 42% of Gen Xers and 73% of Baby Boomers have never used AI in their work.

The research also found that one in ten workers say they did not receive enough opportunities to develop in their role.

“In a competitive job market, workers who do not receive opportunities for upskilling and career advancements are twice as likely to leave the organisations (63%) than those who do (31%),” Randstad Malaysia said in a press release.
