A Massachusetts staffing firm was cited $365,000 by Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell’s office.
Tesco, based in Woburn, Massachusetts, allegedly violated Massachusetts’ Earned Sick Time Law and misclassified workers as independent contractors. Other allegations included inadequate pay slips and payroll record keeping as well as not providing new work assignment notices to temporary employees. The alleged violations occurred between July 2021 and January 2023.
Tesco has been contacted for comment.
Massachusetts’ Earned Sick Time Law requires employers give workers up to 40 hours of sick time per year.
“When employers violate our laws, including crucial protections for sick time that enable workers to take care of themselves and their families, vulnerable workers across the Commonwealth are unfairly harmed,” Campbell said.
Her office has issued more than $3.0 million in citations over the Earned Sick Time Law since she took office in January 2023.
