Research by Indeed Flex found that 69% of temporary workers in the US are 35 or older. The organization said the data shows the face of temporary workers has changed, with the majority being mature adults, parents or retired.

It also found that 39% of temporary workers are students or stay-at-home parents who need flexibility. In addition, 31% are retired and want extra money for socialization or to stay stimulated. Another finding: 30% were new to the area in which they temped.

Indeed Flex, a division of Indeed, is a temporary staffing platform with an integrated VMS.

Other findings:

  • 72% of hiring managers report hiring temporary workers for warehouse, hospitality, retail and industrial jobs.
  • 83% agree or strongly agree that temporary workers are proactive and eager to help.
  • 68% are pleased with the quality of their temporary workers’ work or reported work surpassed expectations.
  • 77% report temporary workers are hardworking and meet the skill requirements of their roles.
  • 76% report temporary workers are reliable.

Data comes from a survey of 1,000 US temporary workers and a separate survey of 1,000 US hiring managers. Both surveys took place in September.
