More than half of employees globally (60%) are either moving, might, or will definitely seek new employment in the next 12 months, according to a study by professional services firm Aon.

Aon’s Employee Sentiment survey involved 9,202 people aged 18-64, in employment at organisations with more than 500 employees, globally.

In the study, 47% of employees ranked the provision of better-than-average pay and meaningful benefits as the number one factor influencing their employer choice.

Meanwhile, 42% of respondents said they would be willing to sacrifice pay for better benefits.

In terms of employee expectations, 49% say employers should support employee wellbeing, while 45% say employers should help employees save for retirement/long term needs.

Employees also ranked their top five valued benefits (in order): medical coverage, paid time off, work-life balance programs, retirement savings and career development.

As for employee benefits, 63% would be willing to sacrifice existing benefits for a better choice of benefits.

At the same time, 17% of employees say they are not at all confident that their employer is investing in their skills development and training to prepare them for the future of work.

Aon’s study also looked at the impact of AI.

It found that 15% of employees are unsure of the impact of AI on their jobs. More than a third (35%) feel more motivated to develop new skills to stay relevant.
