Nine out of 10 companies say they don’t have the talent necessary to drive successful digital transformation projects, according to the 2025 State of Digital Transformation by TEKsystems, a division of Allegis Group.

The biggest skills gaps were in artificial intelligence/machine learning, cybersecurity, data analytics/data science, automation and big data.

TEKsystems’ survey found that 56% of companies need at least some new types of talent in a few areas for their digital transformation efforts. Another 28% said they need many new types of talent in volume, and 7% need to completely revise their talent base.

Overall, 75% of organizations that are digital leaders plan to increase spending on digital transformation this year compared with 47% of firms that are considered digital laggards.

The top goals for digital transformation efforts include replacing or upgrading legacy IT systems, cited by 35%; enhancing employee performance/productivity, 35%; improving customer experience and engagement, 33%; and reducing operational inefficiency, 30%.

The survey took place from November to December 2024 and included 855 technology and business  decision-makers.
