The majority of Indian professionals (76%) face a pile-up of incomplete tasks by year-end, reports The Economic Times, citing research from Atlassian, a collaboration and productivity software company. The report is based on a survey which gathered responses from 6,000 workers across India, Australia, the US, France, Germany and the UK, highlighting the pressure knowledge workers experience as they strive to close the year strong.

For the 1,000-plus Indian respondents, the top reasons for unfinished projects included unforeseen obstacles (36%), overcommitment (32%) due to taking on more work than they could manage and shifting of goalposts or changing priorities (31%) for their inability to finish tasks.
While more than a third (36%) of respondents said they maintained a “new year, same priorities” approach, a quarter admitted to good intentions but poor follow-through. Less than three in ten (28%) said they selectively circled back, and one in ten confessed that some projects were simply forgotten. Meanwhile, the report revealed stark generational differences in how Indian workers approach year-end deadlines. Gen Z (14%) and millennials (11%) are more likely to let projects slip, while Gen X demonstrates a stronger drive to finish, with 40% aiming to complete tasks by year-end compared to 29% of Gen Z and 31% of millennials.
