Online recruitment in India increased by 22% year-on-year in October 2024, according to the latest foundit Insights Tracker (fit).

The 22% increase reflected continued confidence among employers. However, month-on-month hiring dipped by 5%, owing to seasonal factors post-festive peaks.

The tracker observed an increase in recruitment activity in 21 out of the 27 industries on an annual basis in October 2024. Real estate saw the highest increase at 39%. This was followed by construction and engineering (38%), manufacturing (38%) and healthcare and pharmaceuticals (38%).

Telecommunications saw a fall of 6%.

By functional hiring area, 10 out of 13 areas reported annual growth in hiring. Medical roles saw the highest increase at 35%, followed by senior management (30%), marketing & communication (22%) and finance & accounting (22%). 

Customer service was down 11%.

Hiring surged across all 13 monitored cities annually, with Coimbatore topping the list at 8% month-on-month and 65% year-on-year growth. Bengaluru saw a 38% annual increase, while Jaipur recorded a 37% gain.

By experience level, hiring demand for entry-level saw a 13% increase annually. Hiring for associate roles with an experience of 4-6 years saw a 12% uptick in hiring on a year-on-year basis.

Mid-senior level roles (7 - 10 years of experience) witnessed an 11% increase in hiring demand.

At the same time, senior-level roles with 11-15 years registered a 3% increase in hiring activity, while there was a notable 3% drop in hiring activity for roles demanding 16+ years of experience.
