Amergis Healthcare Staffing filed a data breach notice on Dec. 7 with the Maine attorney general’s office. The notice described the incident as an external system “breach (hacking)” that occurred on Feb. 6; it was discovered the same day.

The type of information affected includes individuals’ names and personal information. Amergis offered identity theft protection services to those that may have been affected.

Consumer notification was issued Nov. 29, according to the notice, which also indicated 11,329 people were affected, including 75 Maine residents. The company had notified Maine residents on Nov. 18.

“Amergis identified unauthorized activity in Amergis email accounts,” the organization stated in its notice to Maine residents. “We secured and remediated the compromise, engaged additional third-party experts, hardened and enhanced our data security, and commenced an investigation. We have worked diligently to determine what information could have been compromised. Unfortunately, these types of incidents have become commonplace and impact organizations of all sizes.”

Maxim Healthcare Staffing rebranded to Amergis earlier this year. It ranks fifth on SIA’s list of largest healthcare staffing firms in the US following its acquisition of LRS Healthcare in the second quarter of 2023.
