A 54-year-old man was arrested by the UK’s Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority in the Watton area of Norfolk, England. The man is suspected of forcing more than 70 men and women to work excessive hours and withholding their wages.
The man was also arrested for money laundering offenses and Section 1 of the UK’s Modern Slavery Act for the involvement in forced or compulsory labor.
“We received allegations that a number of people have been working excessive hours and not being paid adequately for their time,” GLAA Investigations Manager Nev Bradbury said in a press release. “Exploiting vulnerable people for work is a crime we do not tolerate, and as an organization we work hard to stop worker exploitation.”
The man arrested by the GLAA was bailed after being questioned by the GLAA and Norfolk Police. Enquiries in the case are continuing.
