EU employment increases 0.5% in Q4, GDP up 1.1%

The number of employed persons increased by 0.6% in the euro area and by 0.5% in the EU during the fourth quarter of 2024, when compared with the same quarter of the previous year, according to Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
When compared with the previous quarter, the number of employed persons increased by 0.1% in both the euro area and the EU in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Meanwhile, when compared with the same quarter of the previous year, seasonally adjusted GDP increased by 0.9% in the euro area and by 1.1% in the EU in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Eurostat’s data also found that seasonally adjusted GDP increased by 0.1% in the euro area and by 0.2% in the EU, compared with the previous quarter. According to an estimation of annual growth for 2024, based on seasonally and calendar adjusted quarterly data, GDP increased by 0.7% in the euro area and by 0.9% in the EU.
By country, Poland (3.7%) saw the biggest increase by growth rate of GDP in volume when compared to the same quarter a year ago, followed by Lithuania (3.6%) and Spain (3.5%).
On the other hand, the steepest decline was seen in Germany (-0.2%) and Austria (-0.2%).
