Dutch temporary staffing hit by reduction in hours and turnover

The temporary employment sector in the Netherlands shrank in hours and turnover in period 13 (week 49-52, ending 29 December), the number of hours decreased by 5% and turnover decreased by 1% compared to the same period last year. 

In the administrative sector, the number of hours decreased by 17% and turnover decreased by 11% compared to the same period last year.

At the same time, in the industrial sector, the number of hours increased by 1% and turnover increased by 6% compared to the same period last year.

The technical sector saw hours decrease by 11% and turnover decrease by 6% compared to the same period last year.

ABU also published full-year figures which showed that the temporary employment sector in the Netherlands shrank in hours and turnover in 2024 compared to 2023, according to the Dutch Federation of Private Employment Agencies (ABU).

The total number of hours fell by 8% in 2024, the total turnover fell by 1%.

In the administrative sector, the number of hours decreased by 17%, and turnover decreased by 8% compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, in the industrial sector, the number of hours decreased by 3%, while turnover rose by 3% compared to the same period last year.

ABU’s research also found that in the technical sector, hours decreased by 11%, and turnover decreased by 4% compared to the same period last year.
