Google was acquitted by a Danish court on Aug. 27 of allegations that it made jobs ads from Danish job board Jobindex available on Google for Jobs without permission, The Local reported. Jobindex must pay DKK 1.7 million (USD 254,577) in court costs.
The case was brought by Jobindex and Danske Medier over copyright, branding and marketing laws.
Jobindex said in a press release that it was surprised and disappointed by the verdict because it said there is a need for large tech firms to take more responsibility for the content on their platforms. The company plans to study the verdict in more detail.
“On behalf of our member Jobindex, we are disappointed by today’s verdict, and we had naturally hoped for a different outcome,” Christina Blaagaard, chairman of Danske Medier, said in a press release. “We find it highly unsatisfactory that, according to the court, Google has no responsibility for a specialized job service such as Google for Jobs. Now we will use the coming time to analyze the verdict and assess its consequences.”
