A security staffing firm, Mata Security Agency, was found guilty of exaggerating the number of security guards it deployed at the Central University of Kerala and defrauding the university from 2010 to 2015, the Onmanorama newspaper reported. A judge in the Hosdurg Subordinate Court issued the ruling on 12 August and directed the company to return INR 6,444,947 (USD 76,760) in siphoned money plus interest. The court also directed the agency to foot the legal cost of the university.
The university had filed a civil lawsuit against the firm. A separate criminal case is also pending in this matter.
