A staffing firm and management company are paying $215,000 to settle an EEOC lawsuit claiming they subjected female employees to a hostile work environment at a Memphis warehouse, the agency reported.

The two firms, Prestigious Placement and Prosero, will also provide other relief, according to the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Attorneys for the firms have been contacted for comment.

In its lawsuit, the EEOC alleged that a male lead employed by Prosero subjected female employees placed by Prestigious Placement to unwelcome sexual comments. The suit also says when two of the female employees complained to supervisors, they were ignored. Prosero later terminated the employees alleging performance issues.

In addition to paying $215,000 in damages to the three former female employees, the owners of Prestigious Placement will revise and distribute its anti-harassment and anti-retaliation policies, post a notice in the workplace informing employees of the settlement and provide specialized training to supervisors, managers and employees. The companies will also provide periodic reports to the EEOC regarding any future employee complaints of sexual harassment or retaliation.

“The EEOC commends Prosero, Prestigious Placement and their attorneys for working with the agency to resolve this lawsuit to the satisfaction of all without protracted litigation,” Faye Williams, regional attorney for the EEOC’s Memphis District Office, said in a press release.

The case was filed in the US District Court for the Western District of Tennessee.
