Canadian GDP grows less in Q1 than expected

Canada’s gross domestic product grew at an annualized rate of 1.7% in the first quarter, the CBC reported. The increase was less than economists had expected. Douglas Porter, chief economist at the Bank of Montreal, noted Canada’s economy “cooled notably in the early spring after a decent start to the year,” according to the CBC. Porter was referring to January’s performance, which was at a 12-month high, the news agency said.
