Amazon ups frontline wage to average of $22 per hour
Main article
Amazon is increasing base pay for its hourly frontline workers — those working in fulfillment and transportation — by $1.50 per hour starting this month, which will bring the average base wage to more than $22 per hour. Average total compensation will be $29 per hour when the value of benefits is included.
Amazon has more than 800,000 people in these roles across the US, and the increase will equal a total investment of more than $2.2 billion.
The increase was discussed in a post by Udit Madan, VP of Amazon Worldwide Operations.
The company is also allowing employees to enroll in language classes on their first day rather than requiring them to wait 90 days.
In addition, Amazon will add Prime membership as a benefit to frontline workers starting next year.
