As VP of government relations for the American Staffing Association, Toby Malara is one of the industry’s chief advocates. In 2022, when 15 states introduced legislation to regulate the healthcare staffing industry, he led efforts to ensure that language establishing nurse rate cap systems was removed from each bill. Malara also directed ASA’s political action committee StaffingPAC to a record for contributions received, enabling the industry to become even more engaged with lawmakers. Outside of the staffing industry, he volunteers with the Oakton High School athletic department and serves on the board of the Hoya Hoops Club, the fundraising arm of the Georgetown University basketball program.
