When travel nurses Danielle Doyle and Diego Davis met for dinner in 2015, they uncovered an unsettling reality - a stark wage disparity for the same job.
Spotting an opportunity to create an agency where everyone got their due, the duo launched Access Healthcare LLC not merely as a solution but as a beacon of fairness in the healthcare realm. “Despite having the same recruiter, agency and unit, Diego was making a lot more than me. That’s when we knew transparency was the missing link we needed to introduce to the industry,” says Doyle, who serves as the firm’s CEO.
Today, Princeton, New Jersey-based Access Healthcare operates in more than 40 states and has more than 200 employees. “Our journey, initiated from New Jersey and Pennsylvania, has rippled into a domino effect, solidifying our place in the healthcare industry,” CFO Davis says.
He attributes the agency’s rise to the pandemic, noting that Covid-19 propelled Access Healthcare to greater heights, prompting the creation of a BPO company in the Philippines to support administrative staff.
“While our trajectory was already on a path to success, the pandemic acted as a catalyst and placed us where we needed to be,” Davis says.
While Doyle acknowledges Covid’s role in propelling Access Healthcare’s ascension, she also underscores another key element fueling the company’s growth: a robust referral network fostered by the advocacy and endorsements of healthcare professionals themselves.
“For the longest time, we didn’t have to rely on advertising to get out there,” Doyle says. “It was purely word of mouth that did everything for us. We’re nurses, and I’m proud to say that nurses are driving our brand through recommendations. It’s a testament to our success story, and I’m beyond grateful for that.”
Looking forward, Access Healthcare foresees attaining a milestone of $100 million in revenue by the end of 2023. The vision, however, extends beyond financial benchmarks, encompassing the establishment of locum tenens, permanent placement and therapy divisions.
In addition, the company plans to extend its global footprint, welcoming nurses from the Philippines in 2024 and internationalizing BPO operations to support other agencies.
“We believe in momentum, in embracing failure as a stepping stone to triumph, and that’s what keeps us going. We stand against greed and stand firm in our commitment to uplift others,” Davis says. “Nobody made a difference by being like everyone else. It’s all about taking the leap.”
