At ProLink Staffing Services, it’s the people that come first. “From the beginning, we have always looked at
people, process, systems - our number one asset is our people,” CEO Tony Munafo says. “You don’t develop business, you develop people.”
It’s worked for the Cincinnati-based healthcare staffing provider, which ranks No. 4 on this year’s list of Fastest-Growing US Staffing Firms.
“We believe we are here for a higher purpose, and that it is our responsibility to impact all the communities that we live in, serve in, throughout the country,” Munafo says. “During the pandemic, there has been no greater time of need to make sure we are carrying out that mission, to make an impact by providing great talent to deliver great patient care to all those in need.”
ProLink provides nurses, therapists, respiratory therapists and surgical techs for acute care, including skilled nursing facilities, hospitals, in-home health, schools and state departments of public health.
When Covid-19 hit, ProLink already had the infrastructure, processes and systems in place and was ready to scale. Its sales team then began contacting systems all over the country that were struggling and challenged with staffing. During all the different spikes, the company’s recruiters were talking to nurses about what they have seen and what they have had to go through. The company also prepared its people.
“We made sure our people had all the tools, all the resources - in terms of talent - in order to deliver not only for our clients but for the talent we were putting out in the field,” Munafo says. “They were part of the front lines every day, so it was important we listened to them to understand what they want, but even more importantly, what they don’t want. In our opinion, when you listen, you understand what the client needs are … what the talent needs are, [you are] better equipped to deliver.”
For co-founders Tony and Mike Munafo, there has always been a bigger vision. When the two brothers founded the company in 2011, it was to carry out their father’s legacy. Their father Vince passed away when he was 39 years old, and his dream was always to start his own business.
“When we started the company, it was a way of carrying out our father’s legacy. But we shortly realized that ProLink is bigger than any one person’s legacy,” Tony Munafo says. “We wanted to create something that was bigger than any one person - an organization that anyone could use as their vehicle to get where they wanted to go personally, professionally, financially - all while creating their own legacy. These individual legacies come together to help the ProLink legacy come to life.
“My father was given less than a year to live and ended up living 10 years,” Munafo continues. “To us, those were nine extra years that he was able to mentor and guide us. He was absolutely the hardest-working individual I ever met in my life. Still to this day, I ask myself, ‘would my father be proud of me?’”
