2023 DE&I Influencers

James Lucier

Former Executive VP, Ceipal Procurewise

Honoree Profile

James Lucier (he/him), former executive vice president at Ceipal Procurewise, speaks of a “gradual awareness that there was innate unfairness in opportunities” that led him to focus much of his career on DE&I. “It weighed on my heart, so I decided I needed to do something.” To that end, he has contributed to furthering DE&I throughout the talent and workforce solutions ecosystem by developing national surveying, research and analysis around workforce DE&I, particularly within the contingent workforce, and building a diverse recruiting training program. Together with his son, Hunter, Lucier in 2018 founded Intentionally Inclusive, a corporate initiative and business imperative for social good. Although Hunter would later pass away due to cancer, his passion for making the world a better place continues to inspire Lucier’s work.

Dedicated to continuing necessary critical conversations, Lucier founded The National DEI Roundtable as a convener of DE&I leaders, practitioners and champions, with a mission to educate and inform professionals in a variety of disciplines about the technology, trends and tactics that are transforming DE&I in the workforce. He also created and hosts a podcast, “DEI Live,” to celebrate the contributions and achievements of those who are advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in the world of work.

Allyship is not about you — it’s about how you support and lift up others by utilizing your resources to create possibilities and opportunities for them.

Lucier has also worked to bring DE&I to all aspects of staffing, from suppliers to managed service providers to the end client. He utilizes artificial intelligence to provide much-needed data for practitioners and providers alike to make sound DE&I decisions. Lucier’s objective with this technology initiative is to break down the data barrier inherent in nearly every contingent worker program so that contingent workforce leaders, practitioners and service providers can assess demographics to build more diverse, equitable and inclusive workforces. Lucier helped develop this technology — and has successfully taken it to market — with managed service providers, staffing firms and clients, as adoption and expansion is growing globally.

Lucier aims to continue promoting authentic diversity in the workforce that comes from the heart. As he explains, “Allyship is not about you — it’s about how you support and lift up others by utilizing your resources to create possibilities and opportunities for them.”

Lucier in April joined Primary Talent Partners as chief revenue officer.
