2023 DE&I Influencers

Eddie Bright Jr.

Global CEO, HCM Staffing and Consulting Group, a River Capital Group Co.

Honoree Profile

As global CEO of HCM Staffing and Consulting Group, Eddie Bright Jr. (he/him) has a passion for the human capital business and its ability to impact people’s lives. “HCM is a holistic company in terms of being a workforce solutions provider,” he says of the minority- and veteran-certified organization. “We look to provide not just thought leadership but actual executional programs that make a difference.”

Some of these programs include upskilling, managerial training and even courses in things like emotional intelligence, all delivered in customized curriculum packages designed to help move diverse workers up the ladder. Bright is proud of the cost savings these programs provide to companies; as he explains it, “Companies that are truly diverse are 35% to 42% more profitable.” But more than that, Bright is proud of the impact these programs have on the lives of individual employees — people who now have the skills and opportunities to grow, make more money, provide for their families and invest in their own communities.

In addition, Bright has helped HCM develop custom e-learning modules for its client partners around unconscious biases, privilege and power, and holding courageous conversations in the workplace. “We believe all these are real, tangible, dynamic difference-makers for the folks who have given us the opportunity to become one of the tools in their toolbox,” he says. “We have the ability to grow programs that stick.”

[It’s beautiful] when other communities grow and rise up and their incomes become better. All we’re doing is creating more pie.

Looking forward, Bright has a lot to be excited about, including a weekly TV show called “New to the Street,” which will air on Bloomberg, Fox Business Channel and the Impact Network. Bright plans to use this platform to feature as guests Black entrepreneurs, CEOs and others who are working to close the wealth gap. He also hosts a weekly short broadcast, “Call Talent Talk,” in which he discusses diversity in the world of work.

Although some companies seem to be losing momentum when it comes to DE&I initiatives, Bright understands the importance of persevering. “If a company doesn’t feel that [DE&I is] important, they will not succeed going forward,” he says bluntly. “[It’s beautiful] when other communities grow and rise up and their income becomes better. All we’re doing is creating more pie.”
