2023 DE&I Influencers

David “DJ” Jordan

Director of DE&I, Aerotek, Allegis Group

Honoree Profile

For David “DJ” Jordan (he/him), diversity, equity and inclusion is a way of life. The son of a Baptist minister, Jordan has been a champion of diversity since childhood.

“Growing up in the church made me understand different cultures and the importance of helping people become economically viable,” he says.

From being hired as a recruiter for Aerotek in 1995 to becoming its first director of DE&I, Jordan has played a critical role in recruiting and developing a diverse workforce.

Although Jordan’s list of achievements is vast, creating a comprehensive strategy encompassing the entire organization to move toward DE&I has been one of his biggest accomplishments this year.

To drive the feeling of inclusion, Aerotek has created a strategy supported by all departments. By bringing Canadian partners on board and incorporating cultural aspects like translating everything into French Canadian and recognizing festivals like Ramadan and Diwali, the company ensures it is talking less and acting more, Jordan says.

People say DE&I starts from the top, but to make a real impact, you have to be among the people to act.

However, he thinks there is still a lot of room left for “firsts” in 2023, and to witness people breaking barriers is something that keeps him going.

“The political-social landscape is evolving, and breakthrough moments like women of color getting leadership positions make me move forward and acknowledge the existence of ‘firsts’ because these ‘firsts’ then create a ripple effect.”

He also sees DE&I as a safe place for everyone to come together. “It’s a place where I see my grandchildren and colleagues’ children coming together irrespective of their religion, caste, race and sex.”

Known for making waves by putting his beliefs into action, Jordan’s ultimate goal is to make Aerotek a diverse company both internally and externally.

“People say DE&I starts from the top, but to make a real impact, you have to be among the people to act. You can’t wait for everyone to be on board because what will you do until then?” he asks. “I’m glad our leadership has been in action with me because Aerotek is a company putting money where its mouth is.”
