honoree profile

As a former patient of the Stanford Health Care, Michelle Johnson was excited to accept an opportunity to give back to the community that took great care of her during her time of need. In 2020, Johnson accepted a position with Stanford Health Care as the senior manager of talent acquisition and contingent workforce, tasked with creating a centralized contingent workforce program focused on quality, efficiency and cost savings.

Starting with temporary employees, Johnson spearheaded the creation of a standardized and streamlined program with new workstreams and processes. Her innovative strategies for implementing new technologies, including a new vendor management system, have revolutionized operations and driven productivity gains. Under Johnson’s direction, Stanford Health Care is utilizing a hybrid managed service provider model where the provider works alongside her team, creating a direct pipeline of support to hiring managers.

Once the program implementation across the temporary workforce of approximately 1,500 is completed and stabilized, Johnson looks forward to replicating the success. “There are a lot of opportunities to start expanding,” she says. “This program launch only addresses temporary workers, so the next step will be to address other contingent workers and streamline those with a more centralized approach as well.”

Johnson is an active contingent workforce leader within the community, participating in a local peer group, speaking at conferences and mentoring new contingent leaders. Outside of work, Johnson volunteers with Project Rehabilitation to do home improvements with Rebuilding Together Peninsula and is also involved with the American Heart Association.
