honoree profile
Lucky timing led Justin Brown to an ongoing journey of implementing groundbreaking technology at insurance, risk management and consulting services firm Gallagher. In 2017, he left the contingent world behind to help to build a new talent acquisition function — then Gallagher presented him with a compelling challenge: rolling out contingent workforce technologies and processes globally. Brown eagerly returned to the contingent side of the fence and has flourished in his new role.
Since then, Brown’s leadership has brought technology, process and change to the organization, which today boasts 120 recruiters and over 53,000 employees globally. Within the last year, Brown spearheaded the creation of a vendor management program from the ground up, focusing resources across the globe to bring order to its contingent worker functionality. In early 2024, investments in resources were made to truly get the program off and running.
“We have been able to bring a lot of control into fruition,” Brown says of this recent triumph. “There has been a lot of work done to define what our worker types are, how we attain them, and how our contracts are structured. The vendor management system is allowing us to mature, become more secure in our tracking of worker spend and financial policies.”
Brown foresees a lot of exciting opportunities to advance the Gallagher program, from benchmarking and score carding vendors to expanding functionality to include financial management of more worker types. “One area of particular interest is direct sourcing to provide a more positive experience for the candidate,” he says.
Brown’s impact on Gallagher’s workforce strategy as well as his passion for the contingent program makes him a game changer in the industry today.
