Joel Kammeyer
honoree profile
Following early careers in the worlds of sports and events, Joel Kammeyer joined the contingent workforce space in 2013. Having studied human resources in college, he was invited to manage a $50 million IT contractor program at Cerner, a healthcare IT company. Since the move into contingent workforce management, Kammeyer hasn’t looked back. “I’ve loved every minute,” he says. “You learn something new every day, and the challenges are fun to solve.”
Today, Kammeyer leads the global contingent workforce program at Epiq, a provider of global technology-enabled services to the legal industry and corporations. Spanning 17 countries, the program hires for projects in areas such as bankruptcy and class-action settlements. Roles range from administrators and call center workers to project managers and attorneys.
In the post-pandemic gig economy, the perception of contract work in the legal profession has changed for the better, he suggests. “I don’t think contract work is viewed as negatively as it once was,” he explains. “Now there are other options out there when a contract ends. And thanks to matching technology and AI, there’s more help available for finding the next contract.”
Introducing direct sourcing to Epiq’s contingent workforce program is among Kammeyer’s proudest recent achievements, along with leading the transition from an external MSP to an internally managed program.>When it comes to the future, Kammeyer plans to focus on improving the program’s operational efficiency, identifying the best ways to use AI and leveraging Epiq’s employer brand to create the best candidate experience possible.
