Kelsey Martin
honoree profile
It’s little surprise that Kelsey Martin owns her own business. Her dad and brother are both entrepreneurs, and her husband is the co-founder of her company. When they launched, she already had expertise in healthcare recruiting, and her husband brought his leadership skills in that same industry to the company. In 2015, in the basement of their house, Skyline Med Staff was born.
Martin has worn many hats as the company has grown, but that has not distracted her from her priority of maintaining a less corporate and more employee-focused culture. Currently CEO, Martin leverages her master’s degree in human relations and organizational development to focus on developing people. She still actively mentors new recruiters and helps to train them. “It’s important to empower them, and I love to see them have that ‘ah-ha’ moment,” she says. Her focus on people is working, as 25% of her staff have worked at the company for over three years, which in healthcare staffing is difficult to achieve.
Reflecting on recent times, Martin says, “This last year was tough because facilities are adjusting to post-Covid life all while still needing contract staff, trying to meet budgets and to be conservative in their spend.” Despite the uncertainty, though, she is optimistic about her company’s future. “I’m in a unique position where I want to invest in others within our organization and see our amazing people grow — and thus, the company will grow. We will stay true to our values of building relationships and treating others the way they want to be treated.”
