Joshua Gutierrez took a part-time, seasonal job in the staffing industry in 2004, thinking he wanted to be an engineer and that this would be a great way to learn and make connections. “I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with staffing, but the people and processes really captured my attention,” he says. The senior VP of Randstad Inhouse Services is passionate about developing teams and enjoys the learning process of engaging new technology and different ways of supporting clients.
When the pandemic hit and Randstad’s teams were suddenly dependent on technology to communicate in a virtual environment while also coping with a global standstill, Gutierrez knew he had to adapt its strategy. The team incorporated new approaches using industry knowledge, enabling them to secure opportunities that led to impressive numbers. “When faced with 2020’s challenges, I ensured the team persevered, achieving results for the company despite the economic shutdown,” he says.
With more workers interested in virtual work opportunities, a safe work environment and flexible work schedules, Gutierrez believes digital transformation will be crucial to the staffing industry. He is confident Randstad is well-positioned to meet the changing needs of the market. The company is making multiple complementary investments in the HR space and aims to expand its current portfolio from earlystage to expansion-stage, focusing on online platforms, big data analytics, machine learning, sourcing, screening and selection tools.
