Put Your Memberships to Good Use

If you’re a professional, chances are good that you belong to at least one organization that helps you move further along in your business.

But are you using them to their fullest benefit?

Memberships with organizations such as Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA), Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), and Project Management Institute (PMI) all do so much more than send out an occasional newsletter. Interactive websites, industry trends, statistics, studies and articles, webinars and seminars – it’s all useful information.

However, after 25 years in the staffing industry and many years of active partnership with SIA, we at Strategic Staffing Solutions (S3) have learned that the one of the best ways to capitalize on these memberships is through attending events, trade shows, conferences and summits. S3 attends these events for three main reasons:

  1. Professional organizations offer new ideas, technologies, and best practices, so use these events as learning tools. Your customers expect you to be industry experts, and here’s a great way to pack in a full schedule of education, discussion and thought partnerships. Take all of that information back and use it.If your customers are engaging in the same shows, all the better. You can be visible to them – you’ll have a chance to thank them and explore new possibilities to partner with them. Bring your own company’s “up-and-comers” as an opportunity to learn more about the staffing industry and meet key players.
  1. Use these events as an opportunity to expand your customer base. Attend match maker events to learn more about who you may best serve and to explore whether you’d make a good partnership. Look at these events as your “go-to-market” strategy. It works.
  1. And speaking of going to market, you can also use these events to extend your reach as an organization. You can find many third party vendors who can help you broaden your market, whether it’s moving into a new location or offering a different service.

We all know that competition in the staffing industry can be fierce. Leverage every tool you can to stay ahead, win customers and keep them. Professional organizations and their events are a great starting point.
