Managing a flexible workforce, whether global or domestic, is one of the most complex jobs at any organization — and it will likely become more so as the year progresses.
Understanding program hot spots to gather feedback and determine areas that may need attention will be key to program success.
Regulatory. President Donald Trump’s term started with a number of actions likely to affect the contingent workforce. Worker classification will be an ongoing hot topic; for example, the use of AI and its application when it comes to hiring. State-level regulations will also require attention. Ensure you or your compliance provider keeps up to date on any regulation that will affect your program.
Equity. The best way to recruit and retain talent is to treat them fairly and equitably. Do you have policies in place and are you monitoring how they are performing? Will they be affected by US presidential executive orders? In the UK, the Employment Rights Bill was introduced in October 2024, proposing an end to zero hours contracts and “hire and fire” practices among other plans. More reforms may be coming that may significantly affect the staffing industry.
Security. Managing talent across borders has a unique set of risks. Add to that a plethora of ever-changing world events and remote work issues that can make a contingent workforce program manager’s job tougher than ever. Is your intellectual property secure? Are your providers’ disaster recovery plans up to date? Now is a good time to review and refresh how you implement disaster recovery measures and safeguard your IP when it comes to contingent hiring.
