Business-work platforms have an uphill climb when it comes to resonating with temporary workers.

A majority of temp workers, or 70%, are not familiar with the platforms, according to SIA’s Temporary Worker Survey 2024: Trends in Temp Use of Platforms report. At the same time, almost a quarter of survey respondents, 23%, say they’re familiar with them but not interested in using them. Two percent say they are earning at least some income from them, and a mere 5% are considering using them.

Upwork emerged as the most popular business-related work platform, followed by Fiverr and Freelancer. Only two other business-related platforms — ShiftKey and Amplify — were cited by more than one respondent, while eight additional sites were mentioned by only one respondent each.

Temporary workers were asked, “If you earn gig work income through online talent platforms focused on directly serving business customers, which ones did you make the most money from in 2023?”
