John Nurthen manages the team that delivers international research content for Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA). He has over 30 years of experience in the staffing industry, having previously worked in senior managerial roles for three of the world’s largest staffing companies: Select Appointments, Vedior and Randstad. He played an active role in major equity offerings and mergers. Nurthen was a founder of the International Review of Employment, published in four languages, as well as DOVA, one of the largest global databases of online vacancies. He played a leading role in the development of common data standards with the creation of Human Resources Extensible Markup Language (HR-XML) Staffing Industry Data Exchange Standards (SIDES). Nurthen has been responsible for internal and external communications, e-business, technology matters, marketing, research, procurement and corporate social responsibility. Nurthen’s experience makes him an authority on global recruitment and contingent workforce issues. He lives in a small village in North Hertfordshire, UK with his wife, a wood-fired oven and two Gretsch drum kits.

Primarily focused on the technology ecosystem of staffing companies, Kevin O’Neill has been technology research director at Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA) since 2022. His extensive reports cover the global market software utilized across front-, middle- and back-office operations within the staffing sector. Additionally, he crafts best practice guides on various tech-centric subjects. O’Neill collaborates predominantly with vendors to compile comprehensive insights into their offerings, while also conducting briefings for staffing firms seeking to enhance or overhaul segments of their technology setup. O’Neill is an experienced information technology leader with over 30 years’ experience in senior IT roles within the staffing industry. He worked for Randstad Australasia as chief information officer before taking a role with Randstad Global IT as head of delivery for the Asia Pacific (APAC) region focusing on the group’s cloud migration program. Previously he worked as IT director for Vedior that had several individual staffing brands in the APAC region prior to its acquisition by Randstad. Knowledgeable regarding the full staffing company tech stack, O’Neill has managed the development of front- and back-office software applications by inhouse teams. This includes both offshore and onshore as well as deployed vendor-provided software in the front office. He has managed all aspects of information technology in the industry including infrastructure, networks, IT project management, cloud migrations, helpdesk, strategy, planning and budgeting, as well as the management of vendors and suppliers. O’Neill is a strong operational leader with a master’s degree in IT management.
