A Staffing Firm’s Strategic Guide to the Universe of Talent Acquisition Technology (TAT)

The new Insight Report, “Talent Acquisition Technology (TAT) – What Is It and Where It’s Going,” is now available to SIA Corporate Members.

"This is the first in a series of SIA research reports and advisories on the subject of Talent Acquisition Technology and how it is and can be leveraged by Staffing Firms to become more innovative and competitive."

The rationale for our current focus on Talent Acquisition Technology for staffing firms is as follows: “In 2012, we believe Talent Acquisition Technology (TAT) will confront staffing firms with a range of significant challenges and opportunities as well as decisions that will have critical impacts on the future of their businesses.”

The summary of findings from the report is as follows:

  • Staffing firms are in many respects information processing intermediaries connecting and clearing the demand and supply of worker/talent engagements.
  • Unlike staffing end-user organizations, staffing supply firms are also specialized service providers, managing and bundling labor/talent and other services into business service offerings. Talent identification/ engagement (talent acquisition) and delivery are the heart of staffing firms as commercial enterprises (value-adding economic entities).
  • Along with changing economic and demographic conditions, a massive wave of flexible, easily-deployable, and very economical technologies and applications (especially TAT) is cresting and is starting to flow through the staffing industry.
  • As such, staffing firms will have to understand and define their own unique technology-supported TA processes (TAT-enabled processes) as service offering enablers and competitive differentiators in the broad or niche markets in which they will compete.
  • The requirements for TAT by staffing supplier firms will necessarily vary considerably in certain areas when compared to the requirements of staffing end-user organizations. Therefore, not all technology vendors can be expected to bring the needed solutions.
  • Seeking advanced solution providers who serve and understand staffing businesses can be important. At the same time, newer technologies may enable your creation of “lego-like” solutions from smaller components, and such a path might very well lead to more innovative, value-added, differentiated, and competitive outcomes.
