US – Randstad: 21% to Increase Use of Temps

September 10, 2012

During the next 12 months, 20 percent of U.S. companies plan to increase the percentage of their workforce that is temporary or contract, according to a new “Workforce 360” study by Randstad.

Already, 67 percent of companies currently use contingent workers in some capacity, according to the study. And 71 percent of firms said the flexibility of a contingent workforce allowed their operations to be nimble during economic ups and downs.

The survey also included temporary workers. It found that 78 percent of temps agree that their experience has been positive.

It also found the top three reasons people temp:

  • Flexibility of schedule, 31 percent
  • Money is better, 28 percent
  • To be in charge of my own career, 21 percent

The Workforce360 Study will be conducted annually. Harris Interactive conducted this year’s study, which included 225 human resource managers and 2,035 employed adults on behalf of Randstad.
