February 06, 2009

Aircraft maker Bombardier Aerospace announced Thursday it would cut 1,010 temporary workers and contractors as part of a workforce reduction along with 350 of its own workers. The company, however, said it still plans to recruit more than 830 people to work on new aircraft.

The workforce reductions will take place at facilities in Montreal, Wichita KS and Belfast, Ireland, over a five-month period starting this month. The Montreal site will lose 500 temporary workers and contractors, Wichita will lose 210 and Belfast will lose 300.

The 830 workers to be recruited include 730 for at sites in Montreal and 100 for the company's Belfast facility.
