Survey - It's taking longer to fill IT positions

June 08, 2009

Half of information technology human resource professionals and recruiters say it's taking longer to fill open positions this year compared to last, according to a survey by Dice Holdings Inc. (NYSE: DHX), operator of the Dice.com job board for IT professionals and other job sites. The most-cited reason for the lengthening time was caution related to the economy.

In addition, 81% said current economic conditions have scaled back hiring plans, according to the survey. And 58% said salaries for new hires are lower this year.

The Dice survey questioned 1,900 information technology human resource professionals and recruiters. Of those 52% were companies that recruited for their own needs while 48% were staffing or consulting firms.
