California, New York, Texas lead in temporary foreign workers

The states with the most foreign temporary workers were California, New York and Texas, according to a report by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. And the country sending the most temporary foreign workers to the U.S. was India.

Temporary workers accounted for approximately 45 percent of foreign nationals legally admitted to live in the U.S., according to the report by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. In total there were an average of 1.9 million resident nonimmigrants in the U.S., which includes temporary workers, students and others.

Temporary foreign workers were disproportionately likely to be male at 59 percent and tended to be between the ages of 25 and 44 (70 percent..

The report was released in February of this year, but it covers the period from July 1, 2011, through June 30, 2012. It was recently picked up by media reports in foreign countries.
