ApTask extends footprint with acquisitions

ApTask Consulting LLC, an Edison, N.J.-based information technology staffing company, acquired Rochester Global Ltd., a professional staffing services firm headquartered in London. The acquisition provides ApTask with a physical presence in both the U.K. and Africa and will serve as headquarters for its European and African operations.

ApTask counts $25 million in annual revenue and 107 full-time employees globally. The three-year-old company operates nationwide and provides managed services, recruitment process outsourcing, vendor management systems, independent contractor compliance and payroll services.

“We see South Africa as the next emerging market in IT, and this gives us a physical footprint there,” said CEO Joe Butler.

The transaction was a stock acquisition of open shares and closed Aug. 16. The acquisition was of 60 percent of the stock for zero out-of-pocket expense. ApTask assumed operations and Rochester’s owner received a board seat and a management team position.

The Rochester Global brand and the firm’s executive staff will remain. Rochester Director Mustaq Rajan will continue to lead the Rochester office while ApTask Director of Recruiting Abdulla Sheikh will manage recruiting and client delivery.

“What we don’t want to do is go in, buy brands and dismantle them,” Butler said. “Our goal in any acquisition is to keep the entire team in place whenever feasible.”

ApTask also expects to close on the acquisition of New York City-based Twiller Moore on Aug. 23, also via a stock acquisition of open shares.

Twiller Moore, a traditional direct hire and executive search business, is about 2 years old and specializes in big data and analytics. Staff will remain and Twiller Moore’s owner will join the ApTask board of directors.

“It’s a natural addition to our portfolio,” said Butler. “Twiller Moore provides a very special skill set in recruiting and developing big data and analytics.”
