Proposed rule change may allow H-1B spouses to hold jobs

Spouses of workers in the U.S. on H-1B visas may soon be allowed to find employment, according to an announcement Monday by the White House. The move is among several proposed rule changes aimed at making the U.S. more attractive to talented foreign entrepreneurs.

The Department of Homeland Security will soon publish the rules, according to the White House, but a date was not given.

H-1B visas are used to bring in skilled temporary foreign workers to the U.S., especially information technology workers. And demand for such visas has been strong. The annual caps for H-1B visas were reached in just a week after the government began accepting them on April 1.
