Kforce’s $119 million deal only includes medical coder segment

Kforce Inc. (NYSE: KFRC) this month announced the sale of its healthcare information management business to RCM Acquisition Inc. for an aggregate sale price of $119 million in cash. This business places certified medical coders on a temporary and permanent basis. It posted revenue of $78.2 million in 2013. Coders are used to document healthcare services provided by healthcare professionals for the purpose of medical billing.

The healthcare information management is separate from other healthcare-related information technology staffing services that Kforce provides, which are included in the company’s technology segment. These include:

  • Electronic medical record configuration, implementation, rollout support and training
  • Healthcare big data/data analytics; healthcare business process optimization
  • Revenue cycle optimization
  • Conversion of ICD 9 codes to ICD 10 codes (This conversion work from the ICD 9 to the new ICD 10 codes is separate from the coding business in the health information management segment)
  • All core IT roles in healthcare environments
