Beige Book: Demand up for healthcare direct hire

Demand is up for direct hire of healthcare workers, according to the new U.S. Federal Reserve Beige Book report released Wednesday.

A healthcare staffing firm in the Boston Federal Reserve District reported a 30 percent increase in permanent placements this year, according to the Beige Book report. In addition, the Dallas District reported “near record” levels of direct hiring by healthcare and engineering clients

Other Federal Reserve districts reported strong demand, in general, for healthcare workers.

“Staffing firm representatives reported that the number of job openings increased, with vacancies found primarily in healthcare and manufacturing,” according to the Cleveland Federal Reserve district. The Chicago district also reported strong demand for healthcare workers.

However, the Richmond, Va., district noted that healthcare organizations such as hospital saw demand slow.

“Healthcare organizations reported softer demand and many were making cost reductions to help offset lower reimbursements, sequestration and uncompensated care,” according to the Richmond district. “Smaller hospitals continued to express concern about their viability under the Affordable Care Act, and the solution for some has been to pursue affiliation with a larger healthcare system.”
