Around the Web: Training; Arbitration, Diversity

Training. Who’s job is it to train workers? With governments footing the bill in order to boost employment and entice businesses to put down roots, the debate takes center stage. The New York Times discusses one such arrangement, with North Carolina spending $1 million, a local college developing a $4.3 million curriculum, all to benefit Caterpillar.

Arbitration. The New York Times also reported on a ruling Friday by the National Labor Relations Board that companies cannot bar employees workers from bringing group claims and force individual arbitration.

Diversity. CW managers are no strangers to the topic of diversity. Companies have been growing more interested in boosting their diversity ranks, both internally and in their pool of suppliers. And as the Wall Street Journal reports, some have even developed a specialized role within the company: the chief diversity officer, whose jobs responsibilities touch on a number of areas.
