Temp Tech Wages Flat in Q2

August 04 2011

Growth in wages for temporary technical workers stalled, following two quarters of modest gains, according to the second-quarter Yoh index of technology wages, released today. Wages for temporary technical workers rose just one cent to $30.99 per hour in June compared to March.

“The stagnation of temporary technical professional wages is partly due to the ongoing uncertainty created by the slow-moving and fragile economy,” said Lori Schultz, president of Yoh, a Philadelphia-based technology staffing firm. “While wages and demand had been increasing prior to the second quarter, the deceleration of GDP growth, the fear of a double dip recession and the anxiety over the potential downgrade of the United States’ credit rating have contributed to the decrease in temporary technical demand and flat wages.”

The Yoh index of technology wages is based on a sample of the temporary technology labor pool of more than 1,000 businesses in the aviation, engineering, information technology, manufacturing, scientific, telecommunications and utility communities.
