January 29 2013

More U.S. healthcare organizations plan to use temporary workers this year than last, according to CareerBuilder’s annual healthcare job forecast survey. It found 36 percent of healthcare employers plan to hire temporary and contract workers in 2013, up from 34 percent last year.

It also found 37 percent of those employers plan to transition some temporary workers into full-time, permanent employees during the next 12 months.

For overall hiring, 22 percent of healthcare hiring managers plan to add full-time, permanent healthcare employees in 2013, up three percentage points over 2012, according to the survey. And 23 percent of healthcare employers reported that they currently have open positions for which they can’t find qualified talent.

The online survey included 274 healthcare hiring managers and human resource professionals and 576 healthcare workers. It was conducted between Nov. 1 and Nov. 30.
