I find it a bit ironic that the author of this advisory tale on how to better manage contingent workers is through a VMS which is exactly the industry segment he represents. At least declare your bias at the beginning of the article rather than at the very bottom of the page where most may not notice. A well run project management organization can oversee the transactions required for a contingent workforce leaving the hiring managers to thoroughly communicate their true needs to their trusted advisers rather than relying on electronic distribution of requisitions. VMS may be a growing method of insulting the managers from direct interaction but it is also resulting in elongated transaction cycles and reduced quality of hire.
