Metro Update: Temporary Staffing’s Hottest and Coldest Markets

LOS ALTOS, Calif., – Dec 15, 2008 – Staffing Industry Analysts released its latest list of the fastest growing temporary staffing metro markets today. Although Staffing Industry Analysts is reporting a drop in median metro employment of 3.5% for the twelve months ending in October 2008, the report suggests some bright spots. In particular, three metros—St. Louis, MO which grew its temporary staffing by 2.8% year over year, Baltimore, MD with year-over-year growth 3.7% and San Antonio, TX, with year-over-year growth of 1.7%—top Staffing Industry Analysts’ Staffing Growth Statistics by Metro Area Report.

The report released today analyzes 70 metro markets throughout the United States. Although not yet one of the top markets, Milwaukee, WI was notable for an improved ranking, from 49th place last month to 24th in the latest report.

At the bottom of the list, the slowest growth markets include: Detroit, MI with negative 10.4% year-over-year growth, Phoenix, AZ with a decline of 8.8% and Wichita, KS which has lost 16.9% of its temporary staffing jobs.
