Oil & gas industry targets women in the war for talent.

Manchester, England-based technical manpower specialist NES Global Talent expects there to be a sharper focus on recruiting women into the oil & gas industry in 2014 as the war for talent continues to intensify. “Despite making up half of the workforce, women have traditionally been underrepresented in the oil and gas engineering sector,” says Simon Coton, managing director at NES Global Talent.

Keep your Gen Y workers from jumping ship.

According to a Monster survey, workers under 25 in every country surveyed are the most dissatisfied, with a significant percentage saying that they disliked or hated their current roles. Rather than dismiss this cohort as a generation of complainers, companies need to be savvy when mentoring their Gen Y employees — a practice that is particularly important at the moment as the battle for talent, at all levels, only continues to heat up.

European Hours Up

Hours grow for first time in two years.

The Eurociett Agency Work Business Indicator reported a positive growth figure for the European average of total hours worked by agency workers (+0.6 percent). The December Indicator marks the first appearance of data from Denmark, bringing the total number of reporting countries to nine, representing 59 percent of the total European agency work market.
